    Upcoming Meeting to Gather Community Concerns in Development of the Rail Park

    The Friends of Rail Park are hosting a meeting this Thursday, March 5th at 5pm at the Parkway Central Library (1901 Vine Street) to discuss the impact & opportunities of plans for development of the Rail Park for local communities.

    Representatives from the organization presented their Community First Plan at an SGCA meeting in 2025, and hope to continue to gather feedback to help ensure the consideration of concerns of surrounding neighborhoods and promote their inclusion in the planning process .

    Next SGCA General Meeting to Highlight Preparations for 2026 Events in Philadelphia

    The next SGCA General Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 10th, and will feature information on the logistics for a series of high-profile events around the City beginning this spring.

    We are honored to welcome Philadelphia's 2026 Director, Michael Newmuis, who has been tasked with leading preparations for the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game, and the nation's 250th Birthday celebration.

    The meeting will be held at St. Andrew Church Hall at 19th & North Streets and will begin at 7pm, with a social hour starting at 6pm. Come out to connect with neighbors and hear more about what to expect for what promises to be a lively few months in Philly

    Performance Garage Explores Legacy of Composers in HubChat Series this March

    The Performance Garage will continue its popular HubChat Series on Thursday, March 12th, from 6:30pm to 8pm, as DanceVisions Resident Artist Charles Askegard, UPenn Professor Emeritus Guthrie Ramsey Jr., and moderator Beatrice Jona Affron explore the legacy of composers Florence Price & William Grant Still through a mix of panel discussion, Q&A, and live performance.

    Get tickets for this special community-centered event, and check out other upcoming events at the Performance Garage, including a series of performances of an adaptation of Moliere's Tartuffe in late February and early March.

    Apply for a Fall 2026 PHS Street Tree by April 1st

    The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) recently replaced their Urban Forest Cloud tree-management system with TreeKeeper, a new platform designed to streamline the application process for, and management of, street trees throughout Philadelphia.

    While the deadline for applications for the Spring 2026 tree planting has already passed, residents & businesses can apply for a free street tree for the Fall 2026 planting season by April 1st. PHS provides some helpful tips for how to apply and what to expect in planting and caring for a street tree.

    Philly Spring Cleanup Scheduled for Saturday, April 11th

    The next SGCA Community Cleanup and Care for Clemente Day will take place in conjunction with the 2026 Philly Spring Cleanup on Saturday, April 11th, from 9am to 2pm.

    Residents are encouraged to come out to clean blocks around the neighborhood or join us to help tidy-up Roberto Clemente Playground for the spring and summer months.

    Supplies and refreshments will be available inside the main entrance to Clemente Playground at 18th & Wallace Streets. More information on where to leave bags for pickup will be provided closer to the event. We hope to see you in April.
